A Journey to the Shwedagon Pagoda
My journey took me to the Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar. This sacred place sees thousands of Burmese people each day, all coming to make merit, bow before idols, and seek help. The atmosphere is filled with a profound sense of devotion and hope. As I observed, I couldn't help but think about the motivations and desires driving so many to this location.
A Faith with No Answers
When I asked the Buddhist monk if he had ever had a response to his prayers, his reply was disheartening. He looked at me with sad eyes and said, "No." Despite all his devotion, denial of self, and Spartan existence, he had no assurance that anybody was listening.
The Vital Need for Accessible Gospel
Reflecting on the monk's words, I realized the immense importance of making the gospel accessible. It reminded me of a book by Francis Schaeffer titled, **He is There and He is Not Silent.** This is great news for those seeking spiritual answers, including followers of Buddhism. The team in Myanmar, leveraging platforms like Facebook and YouTube, is spreading this message of hope, love, and the promise of eternal life. And incredibly, they are seeing responses from Buddhists engaging with these messages on their smartphones.
